People who hold one or more marginalized identities often face barriers to talking about and/or receiving mental health treatment. These barriers can include lacking access to affordable or comprehensive health insurance; differing cultural norms and perspectives around mental illness; and experiencing either implicit or explicit bias from mental health professionals, to name just a few.
Everyone deserves access to inclusive, affirming, and culturally competent mental health care. This page is dedicated to resources specifically addressing the mental health needs of marginalized communities, including PTSD due to racial trauma, hate crimes, or other discrimination. It also includes directories to help you connect with culturally competent mental health professionals. While this list is far from comprehensive, we hope it will be useful on your journey towards mental wellbeing, whatever that looks like for you.
Please note: The tips and resources provided in this guide are not intended to substitute for professional mental health advice. If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of mental illness, please consider reaching out to a doctor or mental health professional for support.
