Child Development OERs

CH DEV OERs

Welcome to OERs for the Child Development!

The tabs above provide possible options for OER (Open Educational Materials) material for your courses.

Please Note: I am not a subject matter expert for the CH DEV, so the options provided are suggestions and guidance only. You are not required to use the sources contained within this guide.

Steps to Choosing an OER:

  1. Review the resources included in this guide that match your area of study.
  2. If no option here appears to work for your course, please follow these options:
    1. Combine books! Remember, the cool thing about OERs is that you can use pieces of an OER combined with other resources. You're not locked into one textbook and one way of thinking/describing contents.
      1. Add in chapters from the Library eBooks (Ask me how!).
      2. Add articles (newspaper, journal, magazine) from Library Databases to supplement content (Ask me how!).
    2. Let me know, and I will look for additional resources.
    3. Reach out to contacts in your field.
    4. Reasearch other options online.
  3. The library also has eBooks available.
  4. Once you have decided upon an OER or Library resource, please email me at sparksav@laccd.edu. If you want to place a face with my name, my pic is on the left.

Stipend Information

Once you have decided upon an OER or combination of resources, you will update your course with the new resources. A Master Class allows anyone in the discipline to adopt the textbook. Stipend payments can be stacked. The more content you add to the course, the higher the stipend amount. Please see details about each amount below.

Stackable Options:

  • Master Class Shell Creation

Create a ZTC/OER Master Class in your discipline to share with colleagues. Adopt existing OER text and input into a Canvas shell to be shared in Canvas Commons and with discipline faculty. Content is embedded in a shareable Canvas shell and meets accessibility requirements ($2,500 per person). ONE per course/OER.

Please find the Master Class shell requirements on the tab to the left.

  • As Is – Adopt an existing open textbook or open course content without changing the content. Content is embedded in a shareable Canvas shell and meets accessibility requirements ($1200 per person).
  • Master Class Interactives/Ancillaries – Develop ancillary and interactives such as quiz question banks, lecture slides, quizzes, discussion posts, or lab manuals; Input into an in-construction or existing Master Class shell. Content is embedded in a shareable Canvas shell and meets accessibility requirements ($3,000 per person. May be combined with the Master Class Construction for a total stipend of $5,500)
