The article discusses gender identity through superheroes. The author uses popular superheroes such as Wonder Woman, The Hulk and Spider Man. These characters are presented in comics as normal human beings but when conflict arises they transform into a super human form. The transformation results in the characters becoming an exaggerated version of a male or female figure. The author argues that once the transformation is completed the general public alienates these superheroes in the same manner transgender individuals are alienated when sex or gender transition occurs. The article is a useful source because it addresses transgender transitions in American society. Kirkpatric has published gender identify peer-reviewed articles in notable journals.
