Parameters for Stipend Projects

Full-time faculty and adjunct faculty teaching at least one course at LAMC during the 2025/2026 school year qualify for submission to the ZTC project. Adjuncts teaching at more than one school in the LACCD may not submit the same project for approval at more than one college. 

  • The options below may be stacked. The more work you complete, the higher the stipend compensation.  
  • Courses must be on a credit certificate or degree pathway.  
  • All material created from this work must have an open license from Creative Commons.  
  • Mission’s goal is to create ZTC Pathways, allowing students to complete a degree or certificate without paying for reading materials. 

As Is

Adopt an existing open textbook or open course content (including a Master Class) without changing the content ($1200 per person). 

  • Creative Commons License associated 

  • Commitment to use for a certain amount of time 

  • Proof of switch 

  • Flagged in schedule 

  • Integrated into Canvas modules 

  • Must be DE-certified to teach online in LACCD 

  • Ensure all materials are accessible 

Remix 

Update existing OER with significant revisions or develop custom course content from multiple open educational resources and original open content to support learning objectives not met by existing open resources. This includes integrating digital library materials. ($1500 per person) 

  • Creative Commons License associated 

  • Commitment to use for a certain amount of time  

  • Proof of switch 

  • Flagged in schedule 

  • Integrated into Canvas modules 

  • Must be DE-certified to teach online in LACCD 

  • Ensure all materials are accessible 

  • Integrated materials reviewed by DE Specialist to ensure accessibility 

Master Class Shell Creation Using As-Is Text

Create a ZTC/OER Masterclass in your discipline to share with colleagues.  Adopt existing OER text and input it into a Canvas shell to be shared in Canvas Commons and with discipline faculty. ($2500 per person).  

  • Creative Commons License associated 

  • Integrated into Canvas modules 

  • Flagged in schedule 

  • Shared with discipline colleagues, ZTC Task Force, and OER Commons 

  • Meets quality standards developed by the California Virtual Campus - Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI)

  • Must be DE-certified to teach online in LACCD 

  • Will receive input on your course design and adjust based on the CVC-OEI guidelines and recommendations from the ZTC Team

  • Ensure all materials are accessible

Master Class Interactives/Ancillaries

Develop ancillary and interactive materials such as quiz question banks, lecture slides, quizzes, discussion posts, or lab manuals; input into an in-construction or existing master course shell ($3,000 per person). This may be combined with the Master Class Construction for a total stipend of $5,500. 

  • Creative Commons License associated 

  • Shared with discipline colleagues, ZTC Task Force, and OER Commons 

  • Meets quality standards developed by the California Virtual Campus - Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI)

  • Must be DE-certified to teach online in LACCD

  • Integrated into Canvas modules 

  • Ensure all materials are accessible

ZTC Master Class Course

This self-paced, auto-graded course leads faculty to create a shareable ZTC MasterClass version of their ZTC course for other instructors to customize and adopt. ($500 for completion | May be stacked with other stipend opportunities).

  • The course takes approximately 3 to 5 hours to complete
  • Additional time may be required to revise your ZTC course based on the training
